There are 8 of us staying at the house now, Fran's mom, sister, brother, his wife and their two boys. Mateo, or Matu, is 2 and has huge twinkly, brown eyes. He falls asleep at the table after lunch everyday, getting drunk on food. Facundo, or Facu, has clear blue eyes and mirrors every facial expression you make. There hasn't been a dull moment between the two of them.
I think the biggest event so far during the past few days was last night, when we went to see August Rush at the movie theatre (which by the way is a great movie that I recommend to anyone and everyone, the little boy does an amazing job). There were some loud, yappy, 50-something women sitting next to me. They were all deeply bronzed with long flat-ironed hair, lots of makeup, big (probably fake) boobs, animal print clothes, and they were probably all divorced or never married. They were talking obnoxiously loud throughout the entire movie and I finally got so fed up that I couldn't hold back any longer. I turned to the lady next to me and politely said, "Disculpa, todos estamos tratando de ver la película, por favor..." ("Excuse me, we're all trying to watch the movie, would you mind?") She didn't take too kindly to this and responded with an angry, "What did you say to me?" at which point Fran jumped in and without noticing tapped her knee when he asked her to quiet down. Being far less sane than anyone I've come into contact with, she loudly said to the other women she was with that "two retards were telling her to be quiet" and that one of them touched her and leg and someone should call the police. I quietly smirked in my seat, reveling in her insanity, and enjoyed the rest of the movie.
When the movie ended, her animal print-clad clan made a hasty exit while we sat for a few minutes, taking in the credits. It turns out they had waited outside the theatre for us because they were so enraged we had asked them to keep it down, and they started walking behind us like angry high schoolers, talking loudly about us as we left the building. The woman ended up frantically screaming that Fran had touched her leg in the movie theatre and tried to steal her wallet. He turned around and asked how old she was, to which she responded, "what do you care?" and he said, "don't you think you're a little old to be waiting outside the theatre?" This obviously didn't fare well for her old, wrinkly self that she had so carefully squeezed into her tight clothing, and needless to say she didn't take a liking to the comment at all. I think she is most definitely one of the more interesting characters I've stumbled upon during my lifetime, and I think she'll provide me with endless amusement for years to come.
I now must bid farewell for now, for afternoon tea (they love to think they're English down here, but what do they know?) is calling my name. I send lots of love to all and promise to post pictures soon.
