Update

Just so this blog doesn't fall entirely out of date, I'll post a brief update. First-off, the Ophiusa Regatta never happened. Well it did happen, just nor I nor the Blue Alachar participated. I had to take a last-minute trip back to the States, it was expected but I hoped it would be a few weeks later. So I was out of the running and very sad to be missing out on participating in my first real regatta! But low and behold, the boat had engine trouble and didn't get to participate either. There was lots of disappointment I think but the rest of the crew members aren't people to dwell and they had a grand ole' time going out and sailing for a few hours a couple of days later while enjoying all the food that had already been prepared for the voyage.

Now, a few months later, I am again back State-side. After a wonderful but rocky year in Barcelona, I'm plotting my next move while currently re-collecting myself and relaxing in Cincinnati. Although always a comfort to be home, I find myself more resistant to those comforts now. I want to make my own meals, do my own laundry, and make my own decisions. While I used to seek as much validating input as possible, I'm starting to find some of that input more stifling. I suppose it's just part of the process.

As I'm unwilling to immediately resign myself to getting a real job, I'm leaving on June 8 for Australia and New Zealand. My cousin from Mexico City is finishing a semester of study abroad in Sydney and I'll be joining her and two other girls from Mexico City to putz around for a bit more than a month, exploring the south island of NZ and the east coast of Australia. So I'm looking forward to blowing half my savings and once again strapping on my backpack. After that I'll try my luck in Mexico City. I've been wanting to move back since I was 16, but college and romances got in the way and now that neither of those are present, it's high time. So the time line in my head looks like early September will about hit the mark, hopefully I'll get there before Mexican Independence Day!

Anyway, I'll try to keep posting, although Cincinnati probably won't offer much that's worthy. Otherwise my next post will be from Sydney :D
